This project involved the complete graphic design of a versatile card system for a medieval fantasy tabletop RPG. The work encompassed creating double-sided enemy and boss cards with multi-phase stat blocks, immersive event and encounter cards to drive narrative, and a full suite of class-specific ability cards with custom iconography. Every element was designed to be both functionally clear for gameplay and visually cohesive, culminating in a premium leather-and-metal textured back design to unify the entire deck and strengthen the game's brand identity.
Desing Process
This design process began with freehand sketches to explore layout and composition. These ideas were then refined into structural low-fidelity wireframes to establish a clear information hierarchy. The final step applied the complete visual identity—including color, texture, and iconography—to produce the high-fidelity designs, resulting in cohesive, gameplay-ready cards.

Sketch
This initial stage focused on rapid ideation and exploring different layouts for the key on-screen elements. Using simple, undetailed strokes, the priority was on the basic structure, information hierarchy, and user experience. This approach allowed for free iteration on the flow and placement of components without significant time investment.

Final UI Design:
This is the complete visual realization of the concept, where the final color palette, typography, custom iconography, UI components, and micro-interactions were applied. Everything was aligned with the brand identity and established design principles, resulting in a polished, cohesive interface ready for development and addressing both functional and branding needs.
Architecture
The card architecture for 'Edgeguard' was meticulously designed to serve both gameplay functionality and immersive storytelling. It features a hierarchical layout for enemy cards that clearly separates combat phases, modular event cards for narrative engagement, and ability cards with class-specific iconography for quick player reference. This structured yet thematic approach ensures clarity during gameplay while maintaining a cohesive medieval fantasy aesthetic across the entire deck.
Mobs cards
A double-sided card system was designed for enemies and bosses, clearly displaying their different combat phases (Initial and Final). The layout organizes information hierarchically with the name, health points, and a numbered list of abilities or mechanics, making it easy to reference during gameplay.

Ability cards
A set of ability cards was developed with unique iconography for each character class. Each card features a name, cost (e.g., "10"), and a numbered description of its effects, using a clean and consistent format for quick identification of each ability's power and utility.

Item card
This item card exemplifies the consistent architectural framework and medieval fantasy aesthetic developed for the Edgeguard deck. The card maintains a clean, hierarchical layout: the item’s name is prominently displayed at the top, followed by its cost (“10”), and its equipment type (“Head”) for immediate recognition. The card uses concise, rules-oriented language and visual cues such as thematic typography and iconography to convey gameplay mechanics—such as class and level restrictions—clearly and efficiently.

Event/Encounter Cards
Modular cards were created for random events ("Random Encounter"). To immediately signal players that they are handling an event card and not an object or ability, the classic layout was inverted, placing the prominent title and clear text block above the illustrative image. This deliberate architectural choice, combined with the medieval fantasy aesthetic of thematic fonts and borders, ensures quick recognition and helps immerse players in the game's narrative.
Some Assets
The assets showcased in this image were specifically created to enhance the visual and functional experience of Edgeguard. They include detailed iconography for abilities and character classes, thematic illustrations for events and encounters, as well as supporting graphic elements that reinforce the medieval aesthetic and gameplay. Each asset was designed to ensure visual consistency, high readability, and quick recognition by players, incorporating textures, colors, and styles that harmonize with the game’s narrative and mechanical universe.
